Some Acne Realities For You

By Dave Owen

It is common knowledge that what causes acne is that the skin's pores get blocked with body oils and/or dead skin. But, you have been told a lot of things about acne causes that are not true.

For starters, if you eat greasy foods like French fries, potato chips, or pizza, your skin will not be adversely effected. This is the same if you eat chocolate or drink any of the many carbonated drinks on the market. Also, if you wear make-up, your skin will not be effected if the products are oil-free.

I am sorry to tell you that if your parents had acne as teens, you will probably do the same. If this happens, most people have the problem disappear by the time they are out of their teens. Here are some things that you can do to reduce the acne problem. Clean your face with a mild soap and warm water in the morning and before going to bed. I would suggest that you not use a washcloth as it may be too rough. If you use your hands you will be much kinder to your skin.

Anything that you put on your face, including your makeup, sunscreen, or moisturizer should be oil free. Make sure you always remove all of your makeup before going to bed. When you exert yourself in any way and you are sweating because of it, make sure your wash your face. Keep your hair off you face. Your hair has its own oils and you don't want them rubbing onto your face. Make sure you wash your hair regularly to avoid the oils aggravating your skin.

If you use any hair care products like sprays or gels to keep your hair in place do your best to keep these off your face as they can also block your pores. If you must wear caps or hats, keep an eye out to make sure that they don't encourage acne along the hairline.

Another important thing to remember is not to touch your face excessively. Touching transfers the dirt and oils from your hands to your face. Equally important is to refrain from picking, touching, popping or squeezing the pimples which can cause them to get much worse.

There are many acne products to be found at the drug store. Be careful what you use because something that works for your friends may not work for you. The products that work the best contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as these ingredients will help dry out and reduce the pimples. But, you must follow the directions completely. And do not overuse or misuse these products because that could damage your skin.

If, after trying some of these products, you have not received any relief, talk to your doctor. A dermatologist will be able to prescribe something that will probably work better. - 14915
