Critical Information About Meeting Your Foreign Fiance

By Art Saborio

If you were going to submit your K1 Fiance Visa without an attorney, there are few things you must know before submitting.

Here is an important requirement for the applicant, before submitting the K1 Fiance Visa Application. You must have met your fiance within two years of submitting your K1 Visa Application. Say you met your fiance three years ago and decided to send in the application. You will be denied and will have to start over again. The best thing to do would be to take another trip out to see her. Then come back to the USA with updated travel docs and submit your application.

There are a number of things that these trips prove to the USCIS officers reviewing your application. For one it ensures your relationship is current. They tend to not trust a long distance relationship that does not show face to face contact within two years. As they see it, most normal relationships have personal contact. If you have not seen your fiance in two years, then something is not right. This will definitely keep your application from being approved.

See your fiance within the last two years. Once is not enough if you really want to show a trend. Meeting once does not show true intent. This is my personal opinion but there are things that can happen over three years of not seeing each other. A bond becomes weak without face to face contact. It is best to see each other every 6 months or at the least once a year. But that decision lies with the both of you.

There are a few K1 Fiance couples that I have been in contact with that were really not compatible. They found this out after they were finally together in the USA. They were so uncomfortable with each other that even sleeping in the same bed was not an option.

Personally I met my fiance every 4 - 6 months and spent a total of three weeks each time I flew out to see her. The first time was very uncomfortable. The second time it was better. The third time I knew she was the right one for me. It is tough to make these trips, but well worth it once your fiance is in the USA with you.

Take a trip to see your fiance regularly. Spend time with her. Here are a few things you must consider when on your trips. Keep all plane ticket stubs, hotel receipts and currency exchange receipts.

Here is a list of the exact things I saved from my trips. I kept plane ticket stubs, hotel receipts, currency exchange receipts, and retail shop receipts. I often bought her things, so keeping the retail receipts were something that showed exactly my whereabouts. Receipts from retails stores always carry the name of the store, address and the date of purchase.

Taking a lot of pictures is something I did on all my travels with my fiance. I would also make it a point to take pictures of us together. These pictures would always have the date and time stamp on them. I would have two pictures of us from every trip I took with her. I attached all these pictures to my K1 Visa Application. - 14915
