Anti-aging Past, Present, And Future

By Jen Hopkins

Since the dawn of time females (and many males) have attempted to ward away the inevitable effects of growing old. Through the ages almost every substance known to man from manure to acid has been spread on the face to try to reverse wrinkle formation.

Most of these substances did nothing towards there desired goal. In fact many early attempts resulted in serious health problems from allergies and disfigurement all the way to painful death. As our understanding of human physiology and chemistry has developed the situation has somewhat improved.

Even with today's advances in science no substance yet known will result in a permanent reduction in the number and severity of wrinkles. That said, some of the modern treatments will temporarily reduce the intensity of facial wrinkles yielding a much more youthful appearance.

Most of todayas creams do their job and make the user appear a little younger in one of two ways. They either remove dead skin to let living skin shine through, or they make skin appear fuller to hide the wrinkles.

Many modern concoctions mix both types of creams into one product. Prices range wildly from no more expensive then standard hand cream to well over $1000 per once. While Much study has been done at this point no evidence exists that these expensive products have any additional benefit.

The fundamental flaw with the current anti-wrinkle products on the market is that they mask wrinkles rather than treat the problems that aging causes the human skin. Because they must be used for long periods of time, even cheap products can quickly strain a budget.

The future of Ant-Wrinkle creams may improve shortly, as some of the new cream formulations currently under development start to hit the mass market. There are reports of some remarkably effective new creams. Much money and resources are spent by drug and pharmaceutical companies worldwide to this aim.

Unless humans suddenly stop growing old, people will always desire and buy products that make them look younger and healthier. In the future, perhaps scientific advances will create an anti-aging product that can actually stand the tests and battles of time. - 14915
