Dance Schools - The Importance of Personal Attention to Students

By Sarah Wilkiamson

When you are looking for the right school to give dance lessons to your child, you should also take into account how much personal attention you think they are going to be in need of. It is a given that all children need individual attention when attempting to learn new things, so the best school for your child might be one that has taken this into account.

Even children learning in smaller classes need one on one attention to help them learn better. Some examples of this are:

Some skills are very hard to learn so the students need to have some one-on-one tuition from time to time when they are learning. This is something many good schools are aware of, as opposed to cramming as many students into a class at once to make more money.

Hands on learning: other times some dance routines are hard to grasp and your child will need to have some one to actually show them how it should be done. With an activity like learning how to dance it is important to have some individual hands on learning. Small children find it easier to learn this way.

Combining individual teaching and family consultation is another popular trend amongst quality dance schools. Children also need to practice what they learn at home from time to time, so it's important that their parents can help support them. When a parent shows support it can be a very fulfilling experience for a young learner.

All of this requires a very good teacher/ pupil relationship. Without a good relationship, the best student and teachers aren't able to gel. Sure, the talent is there, but something is missing. Young children, in particular, need to be able to get along well with their coaches and mentors. Dance is no exception.

Tailoring curriculums is another special area of expertise that indicates a good dance school. Every child has their own special personality and dance can be a very individual art form. In order to facilitate better learning, many teachers in quality schools will tailor their curriculum to suit students who may need to learn things differently.

Understanding dance communication: Dance is a whole new language and it is important for the student to understand it fully when taking dance lessons. Individual tuition will help with this. Sometimes in a group this will be difficult to put across, but with some individual teaching it can become clear. The better the communication the more a student will be able to learn and perfect dance routines and skills.

There are many facets of learning that need to be incorporated into a successful dance lesson. Teachers really need to be prepared to put in extra effort during the early stages and this is often the reason lessons are not successful. With the right school, your child will develop an early love of dance that will last forever. And, their skills will satisfy their goals and that of their parents, too. - 14915
