Spray Tan Tips and Tales

By Kelly Lau

Tanning booths are now a regular method to ensure people in 'sun poor' countries can have that all over tan every day of the year. The reason for this is that evidence has proved how damaging to your skin it is to sunbathe regularly and the more at risk you are from skin cancer, so people are looking for new ways to achieve the same effect safely. The latest method proving very popular (owing to its speed) is spray tanning as it only requires a single application. There are other agents available to help produce an artificial tan but they do not always work that well unless they are applied by someone with experience.

There are now home spray tanning systems available but these may not be the easiest to use on your own although regular users they could save money in time. The methods of artificially creating this effect may differ but a guide to getting a good finish works with them all. Initially you need to exfoliate which will eliminate all the dead skin cells from your body. What you don't want is for people to recognize your tan is a fake by noticing paler patches of skin where the dead skin cells have dropped from your body.

Once this process is complete, it is advisable to prepare your skin further by applying a moisturizing cream (or lotion) to it which will make the agent easier to apply. Secondly, you always want to wear gloves if you are applying the tanning agent yourself to avoid getting the dreaded orange palms which are a dead give away that your tan is fake.

It is also important to remember fingers, joints and feet do not need to be coated as heavily as they will become very dark and once again give the game away. If you are using a spray tanning method then you will need an old towel to wipe any excess fluid away to stop streaking.

Always stay as still as possible after artificial tanning to allow time for the application to settle down and create an even coating. The problem you will have afterwards during this drying time is what to wear because if you wear something expensive that you like, it will probably become stained and won't come off. Another point to consider is the change of clothes you will need once the tan has been applied; take some dark clothes along that way you avoid any staining. To get the most from your artificial tan, follow these guidelines and you won't go far wrong. - 14915
