What's In a Georgia Peach?

Peaches are one of the best fruits around. Not only are they delicious but you get so much out of each bite. These contain vitamins A and C, potassium, fiber and many others. Peaches are also great for keeping your cholesterol levels down. There is no better place to look for the perfect peach than in Georgia. Picking the best Georgia peaches can be something tricky though.

Landing the best Georgia peaches will have you keeping a few things in mind; among the first things that you will want to pay attention to will be the appearance. If the color of the peach that you choose is green, then it is not ripe yet. Peaches with shriveled skin on the other hand, are old. You'll want something with a creamy gold or yellow under color; and is firm to the touch. Don't press too hard though, it may bruise the peach.

A ripe peach will always have that distinct smell; a mix between something flowery and sweet. If in case you end up with a peach that is not ripe enough yet leave it in on your counter for about a day or two. It will be ready after that since peaches ripen in room temperature. Ripe peaches should be refrigerated and used within a week.

Fresh isn't the only way that you can have your peaches. There are many other ways that you can have this fruit. Some favorite recipes for this will include peach pie. Nothing says home more than this. Peach preserves are also a great hit, and the best part is that it keeps very well. Peaches can also be served with pancakes or waffles, poached in syrup or mixed with your favorite muffins. Creativity is your only barrier.

You can also always sell what you make out of peaches in a Georgia craft fair or show. Homemade delicacies are always a large hit both with locals and visitors.
