Natural Depression Help - Change Just One Thing

By John Stephan Laney

Some types of depression are considered "biochemical." These types of depression are caused by internal biochemistry being out of balance. To help with the depression and fix the biochemical imbalance, doctors usually prescribe anti-depressants drugs, and within a few weeks people start feeling better.

Since biochemical imbalances are at the root of many types of depression, it is easy to understand that what you eat can play a major role in feelings of depression. What you eat obviously affects your biochemistry. For example, if you consume lots of junk food you start to feel kinda bad. Your biochemistry is suffering!

Most people looking for depression help can find it by changing one thing. Refined white sugar can often be a big cause of depression. Sugar affects your energy level, your mood and your "tude." Sugar can cause mood swings and occasional black, dark feelings. So if you are having feelings of depression, sugar could very well be the cause.

You can test this out simply for yourself. Remove sugar from your diet for a week and see if you notice a difference and get immediate depresson help. I did this simple test and was amazed after just three days! I had no dark mood swings after the second day (it takes a while for the affects of sugar to stop impacting biochemistry). I felt more enegy and good feelings. I found out for myself that blood sugar levels affect us emotionally, not just physically. You can read a copy of the old classic book "Sugar Blues" to discover all the ways that sugar impacts our health negatively.

I'm not saying you need to give up sweets, as they are one of the joys of life. Just refined sugar. Just for a week to see for yourself. And there are many different kinds of sweetners available at your local health food store thatwill sweeten your food without giving you sugar blues. Stevia and agave nectar don't cause blood sugar level spikes and dips and so they don't affect your moods negatively.

So even if you don't have dark mood swings or feel other depression symptoms, you can give up refind sugar for a week and test this out for yourself. If you absolutely can't envision giving up the white stuff for a week, then you can try a different form of this test that takes only half a day.

For breakfast or a midmorning snack, eat a couple doughnuts and nothing else. Dont eat any protein with them, dont have coffee or soda or any form of caffeine with them. Notice how your body feels in about half an hour to an hour. If you dont pump yourself up with caffeine, you should notice you feel good and happy and energized for about half an hour to 45 minutes, then you should start to feel tired and irritable and groggy for the next two hours after that as your blood sugar swings up then down.

That sugar causes blood sugar spikes is well documented medically. And, we each handle sugar differently and respond to it with greater or lesser sensitivity. But if you want depression help, giving up white sugar for a week is a great place to start. Your nearest Krispy Creme can provide all the proof you need! Sugar doesn't cause all forms of depression, but it is a primary cause for many people. - 14915
