Will Positive Thinking Guarantee Success?

By Jan Shimano

Probably, everyone that you talk to today is familiar with the concept of positive thinking and it's apparent power. However, I have found, in talking to many people, that even though they have attempted to utilize this power of thought, they have been very disappointed with the results. For some, it seemed to be a hit and miss thing. For others, it was a complete failure.

Why is it that for some it never worked and for others it was inconsistent? Should we then just assume that it's a load of nonsense? Hundreds of books have been written on the subject of the power of positive thinking. Many of these books have been on the New York Best Sellers list for long periods of time. With that being the case, one would assume that there must be something to it.

Over the past number of years I have read numerous books and spent many hours studying the power of thoughts. What I have learned, is that the subconscious mind is thousands of times more powerful than our conscious mind. This is the reason why we regularly end up sabotaging ourselves, because we do not recall the memories that are locked in our subconscious and how they prevent us from accomplishing our goals.

I highly recommend a book by Dr. Robert Anthony, entitled "Beyond Positive Thinking. A No-Nonsense Formula for Getting the Results You Want". In his book, Dr. Anthony explains the primary functions of the sub-conscious mind and how we have to go about reprogramming the information buried inside it.

For example, our goal might be to buy that waterfront property that we know is coming on the market next year. We think constantly about it and we have written affirmations that we recite daily. We have even made ourselves an impressive 'vision board' with a large full color picture of us standing outside the home. We have blown the picture up and it practically covers the entire board. We spend time each day looking at it and visualizing living in that home.

Fast forward a year and we find that nothing has moved us closer to owning that dream property. What could be the reason for that? Well, one of the main reasons is that on a subconscious level we have imprinted in our memories something that leads us to believe that we perhaps cannot afford it, or maybe that we are not worthy of owning it. Until we can identify these negative thoughts that are buried deep in our subconscious, and reprogram them, we are not going to be able to move forward and achieve our goals.

If there is no conflict between our subconscious and conscious minds, then those positive thoughts and affirmations are going to have free rein to attract what we need in our lives to bring about a successful outcome. However, if there is a conflict then it is absolutely certain that the subconscious will win out.

We all have these major differences going on in these two sections of our mind. It is critical that we fully understand how the hidden and locked-in negative thoughts and memories can be holding us back from obtaining the goals we have set for ourselves. We then have to do something about it.

It is my firm belief that everything is possible, but a little homework is necessary for us to get there...positive thinking alone is not going to do the trick!

Each and every one of us can have whatever our heart desires. Clear those negative memories from your subconscious and you will be well on your way to the success that you deserve. - 14915
